AJC Discriminating Minds

The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Atlanta’s mainstream newspaper, is advertising for a replacement of their long time columnist Jim Wooten, who is retiring. In their ad, the AJC specifically asks for a “conservative columnist.”

In the process of application, the candidates have to tell why they are conservative. They also have to write a conservative slant to an assigned story about suburban taxation for inner-city costs, just the red meat into which conservative local columnists sink their teeth. There is no right left break down in that story. It just needs to be fixed through better local leadership. We made it through WW II. We can fix this. Is that conservative, or is it FDR?

The AJC needs to be above all that. Listen to the times. As “liberal” President Obama suggested by quoting the Bible and I Corinthians, “put away childish things.” He was referring to Washington party line bickering.

First, it is time for the AJC to have a columnist who is an expert on foreign affairs, as well as national and local issues.

Secondly, who calls himself a conservative or liberal and really means it? Are all conservatives in agreement on immigration? No. On global warming? No. The list continues. So, how could anyone be called a pure conservative?

And how can any company with a penny for a lawyer think that it is okay to discriminate against anyone based on creed, particularly in such a blatant manner. Is this the result of a fairness doctrine empowering conservatives? That should tweak people, across the political spectrum.

Who benefits?

As Israel’s offensive into Gaza approaches its fourth week, the outcome is starting to be seriously considered. The bottom line, to me, is that no one says that Hamas will be removed from power in Gaza. That’s right, they will still be in power.

Who says that one cannot negotiate with an entity if that entity does not want you to exist? In fact, what’s the need for negotiating if one does want you to exist? That’s three-quarters of the “battle.”

Who is benefiting from Israeli policy, as it stands? Israel certainly is not, as the ire of the entire world is becoming focused on them due to their actions, particularly those in its region who are not eating directly from the American spoon. The two beneficiaries are those in Israel experiencing a temporary lull of incoming rockets and the CEOs and stockholders in the worldwide military industrial complex.
